Hey guy's, Just wanted to drop in to say that the off shore fishing is starting to crank up here on the SC coast.Several boats have been landing tuna and, one boat landed a 96 lb wahoo over the weekend. The trout and, red fish are still biting strong inshore and, the flounder are starting to move in from deep water. I hope you guy's are keeping bent rods.

Sandy, I haven't heard of the offshore starting up here yet, Tuna are a little south of us right now. I did hear that the Specks were on the bite oat on of the river tunnels. Thisngs should be really be on the up start by the time I get back from playing in Bogey and Becall land! (BTW Reports of slammer Dolphin down there. Also there have been sitings of sticks poking out of blue water still.)

I'm going to spend this weekend taking care of the honey do list with hopes that the war department will give me my deck shoes, then I'm going to start preparing for the Keys. That means I'll be tying up some flies, practice with the long rod, blow the dust off the spinning gear, ship some toys down there so that I can fish the dock the first night I am there.
Sandy, are any of the oofshore boys in your area fishing the Gulp squids? Seems like the 10 inch size might be productive in the blue water or deep drops on structure.

Brian, I don't no of any of the guy's using the gulp squids.Every one around here is using the butter fly jigs and, the diamond jigs for deep dropping. The only thing I have been using other than them is a 8" sting ray grub with a 4oz head

Gulp baits are making all kinds of interesting imitations. If they work as well as the shrimp do, this could be a good thing. A bait for any situation sitting close at hand in the tackle box!

Let me no how they work for you.I'm open for any thing that works. With the price of fuel this year I plan on doing the drift thing with jigs hooked in the out riggers and, one down deep on the down rigger.Several boats have landed some nice wahoo and, tuna this way, already this season.

If I get my order in before I hit the Keys, I will try them there. Fuel costs are making a lot of people rethink their plan of attack. I think we'll see kite fishing gain some more popularity this year too.

i sure was impressed with the gulp shrimps and the jigs for the trout out on the flats with brian. I sure do wish i had more time and money right, all this talk of blue water makes me a bit itchy. I will be splashin about in a little puddle up the road here real soon. sold the yak and got a jon boat instead. was basically an even swap. yee haa.
I friend of mine said he'd take me out salt backwater here around the bay. should be good for reds, trout and his specialty is shark. My tail was stolen and I was sad. as a boy he used to fish for med reef sharks on the sand flats and will teach me how to clean and cook one like a native ole time florida cracker. we'll be in a 15 ghenoo so it will be pretty close and personal. I am quite excited. I will be remembering my trip brian fondly as we troll thru the back water and stuff. might get lucky and find a tarpon. I'll post my first freshwater trip of the season in the new boat else where.
great to see the ole gang here. looks like a cool stump to hang out on. think I'll stay a while. hope all are well. tight lines.
ps. brian I wish you could see all the fabulous new artwork inspired by my keys trip. the mahihi pin and marlin pins turned out great. pics to come soon. life is posed to take a really cool new turn for me. thanks forever. b.
see ya at the next boat show!

Brazin', go get you a new shark hide and meat to eat. I have no problem with that... I doubt your friend will go "Dirty Harry" on this one the way Justin did on the last. (Still a great story to tell over the green bottles!) Good luck with the boat, I expect you to get as good, if not better, at zipping it through the Mangroves at night as Capt. Jeff did on our poon trip... LOL
