Have you read the story of Earnest Hemmingway and his world record black marlin caught in 1958?
Amazing story! Caught off the coast of Cuba, weighed 2400lbs! Took seventeen hours to land. Had to keep throwing buckets of water on the reel to keep it from catching on fire! He went through 7 pairs of gloves! The fish jumped higher than the 50' mast! Pulled the boat backwards two miles with all horsepower running! I will try to find pics for you...

I heard that wasn't true. I heard somewhere that the record for black marlin was 1560 lbs by Alfred someone in the early 50's off of the coast of Peru?

That is a grander marlin !!!! I hope one day to hook one like that but, The only picture of it will be of it in the water! I'm a very dedicated bill fisherman and, I cant understand why some one would kill them just to have a picture taken. I don't want to jump on a soap box so, I will just leave it at that.

Especially with a pic as evidence. I'm not sure were I read the story about Ernest Hemingway but it was a long time ago. There was also a pic but the fish was lying on the dock and was hard to determine it's length. It said that the fish was 22 feet long. This is possible since this record was set in 1958. I will research Hemingway and see if there is any indication of his fish. This has really peaked my curiosity.

Lunk, there are a ton of stories about Hemmingway's catches. Pictures hang on walls in his favorite watering holes. I hope that someone has copied them all and put them in an archive somewhere. I know that when the Compleet Angler in the Bahamas burned down, a lot of pictures were lost.

I looked into the Hemmingway catch and found nothing about the record marlin. A few articles on him and his fishing passion and none mentioned the marlin. Found some pic of him with a couple blues but none over 1000 lbs.
