I follow the belief that all the equipment has its applications. When it is too windy out for the fly to be effective or frustrating to use, I'm not going to call it a day. I'll break out the other rods and reels. This may not happen as often on the rivers you fish, but in my neck of the woods the wind can pick up in a hurry. That's why I suggest to those starting to kayak fish in our area that they practice casting all of their equipment from sitting on the ground in windy and fair weather alike. That way they know what they are comfortable with in what conditions.

I practice also from a kneeling and sitting position because with small creeks and wary trout you have to sneek up on them. Rich
