I got the official word yesterday that Penn has fazed out the single speed international reels as of NOW! I figured that they would do some changing around when they got sold to Shakespeare but, this was a surprise to me.I like the two speed reels but, the cost is much more than the single speed.I guess it will be a wait and, see deal on what comes next

What? !!!! the internationals have been Penn's bread and butter reels!! Simple, dependable, and easy to maintain! (Not to mention easy to get parts for almost anywhre.) I have never had any luck with Shakespeare reels once they saw salt and sand. Always thought of them as didposable reels. Fish them one year and pitch them.

I plan on grabbing as many of the single speed reels as I can ,if for no other reason than to have them for parts.I'm looking for the senators to get hard to keep in stock for a while.

The Shimano teragra is the best thing out there rite now hands down.I work on them and, they have fewer problems than the Penn reels.I cant say that for the Avet reels because I don't work on them but, I have been told that they hold up well.

I just hope that they keep making the parts for the Internationals available. It's going to be hard for me to give up on the reels that have served me so well over the years.

I checked into this today and, it looks like we will have the parts for the next five years and, a god many parts for the two speed reels will work on the single speed reels. they came out with the V series reel last year and, the top half of the reel is not interchangeable with the single speed reel and, the drag is different but every thing else will work.
