hmmmm. well i don't want to be a party pooper but i don't really like shakespere stuff. for my money i think the quantum reels are a good deal. about 10 20 bucks more but the handle gears don't seem to wear out as fast, the line guilde on the bail is all metal so your line won't cut it if you get a big'un. they are light weight and compact so they fit my hand and don't make it really tired. the drag on my quantums has never failed me and isn't choppy or sticky. I have had my fav now for at least 5 years of heavy duty fishing and lots of abuse. my favorite rod on it was the berkley dark red rod (broken right now, slamed in truck door ) now i have some super cheap rod called an "upgrade" got for $5.99 at a local bait shop. i love it. esp with the quantum reel. when i get back there i might have to get a backup and a few more in other size classes. i have caught everything from little sunnies to good sized bass. nothing huge. also have used it in salt for trout and reds. the reel took a beating this last trip, smashed into the mud on the flats when i fell down and now the bail doesn't want to flip when you turn the handle but thats no biggie and i am going to tear it apart and see if i can fix it. all the writting is rubbed off this reel but it was in the 8-12 # class i think, maybe 6-10, i take if off and put it on lighter rods and heavier ones. i have three quantums and i just wont buy anything else in this price range. all of this i got at walmart. the rod and reel together ran about 60 bucks. that leaves room for a box and lots of terminal tackle. terminal tackle i love the gulp stuff with a red wide gap 3/0 to 5/0 eagle claw lazer sharp hook. thats my two cents worth. hope it helps.

oh p.s. i just donated my last shakespere reel to the spring fishing classic at bass pro for credit to a new one. i never owned a shakespere that didn't break or fail in some way. sorry. my ugly stick is the loner gear cuz the newbies cant break it when hung in the trees. lost my last rod to that exact thing a year ago and said no more. but i don't really fish with it. to soft to set a hook.

quick correction. that little reel i love so much seems to be a pinacle deadbolt not a quatum. when it finally quits i'll go lookin for the same thing.
