I like them because even if you are having a slow day you can always find a pocket of these. I don't like to be skunked.

Not joking here guys,, but many times I have gone specifically targeting pan fish. They are plentyful, usually cooperative, a lot of fun on a light weight rod.

But I can recall a couple of times that I could not even buy a bite. They do get lock jaw now and then.

I haven't targeted them in a good bit of time. Though I would say that I have fun catching Croaker and Grunt, which I consider to be the saltwater equivalent to panfish.

I built me nice little 3wt a while back and, I do enjoy spending a summer afternoon drifting on a farm pond close to my house tossing popping bugs for the little guy's.The lake is deep and, fed by several springs so it is clear and, cold so, some of them do make it to the table from time to time.

Yeah I have a super ultra light spinning combo just for these guys. Really makes a sport out of catching them. Lots of fun and Zach my boy likes it too.

i got a 3wt for them too. havent used it yet. also use my little bitty 3 - 4 foot trout rod for them. lots of fun with crickets for the kids. you get like 300 bugs for $5. esp if i am going with the intent of puttin a few groceries on the table. i love natures store, you can exchange a 2 cent bug for a plump little fishy that's just enough for dinner if you add veggies. now if you are really good you'll get the veggies while your gettin to and from the water hole.

I would agree these are a blast to catch on the right equipment. Me and a buddy occasionally make a trip out to a small creek, thats usually about 10 ft across but goes for a while, and we have no problem catching shellcracker and bluegill every 2 minutes or so.
