Fished the Outfitter today for the first time!!!
Things didn't go as planned...
Original plan was for my wife to paddle her yak while Vick and I used the Hobie in some waters just off the bay for some puppy drum and specks....
Weather this morning changed our plans at the LAST minute... Wind and possible storms popping up had us dialing cell phones as we drove down the street to rearrange things a bit.. Changed the location of the fishing expedition to a freshwater reservoir for bass. . . Could have been the fact that I was fishing with some pretty sizable plugs that I use for Stripers, some Gulp Shrimp on juig heads, or the other tackle we had on hand. (With a 15 to 20 pound class rod and the VS), or it could have been the late launch... But, other than a coupele swirls and some hits, some Pickerel looking beasts following lures, we had no luck.
BUT...
The yak was GREAT to fish from!! Nice easy ride, stable, effortless to pedal and fish at the same time. Vick is a very experienced yakker and yak fisherman, but never fished the Hobie with the Mirage Drive system... He loved it, and we got along in the tandem. So, it was a good day to make a new fishing buddy, this was the first I had fished with Vick. We are thinking of trying the James River ofr some Croakeer and Striper action tomorrow if he can sneak off. (Crab Sahck Restaurant for lunch, crab cake sandwiches and cold brew after a morning on the water sounds like a plan to me!!!)
