Well, in case some of you aren't aware of this, the Winter is the best time to catch speckled trout where i'm from. A few pointers would be to fish bays and bayous very slowly. A tactic that always works for me is to slowly bump a plastic bait along the bottom. If you work your bait with speed, they won't bite. Another thing that works is trolling for them. I set my trolling motor on the lowest or second to lowest setting and work the channels. You do get some hang ups, but i've used this method and limited out on fish in just an hour or two. Don't be shy with questions or other tips.

Winter trout or, what we call gray trout, are ambush feeders that like to use moving water.I look for them around creek mouths on the falling tide .the best way I have found them is to slow troll until I locate them then cast the area .

If you are brave enough to go the bite is on ! Several trout in the 4 to 5 lb area went into the live well this morning. The big problem was that the boat ramp had a a coat of ice and, loading or unloading the boat from the trailer was a little tricky.

I expect you know this, but just in case. fish the creek/river side when tide is rising, fish the bay side when falling. tom
