Here are a few tips that may help fishermen/women increase their catch. I have used these methods for over 45 years with good success…
1. Use a red blade and black skirt on spinner baits at night. 2. Almost every strike on a jig will come while it’s falling. 3. White buzzbaits (don't start on me Bob, lol) work best on warm, rainy spring days. 4. Have confidence in every cast. 5. Drag your line without a lure behind the boat to remove line twist. 6. Buy the best line you can afford. Your line is the only thing between you and a trophy fish. 7. Fishing is best on a rising barometer. 8. When the wind is from the west, the fish bite best. 9. Most big bass live most of their lives in approximately ten feet of water. 10. Fish the flats (5-8 feet deep) for smallmouth after spawning. 11. Never give up. Some of the biggest fish were caught on the last cast. 12. A noisy bait, like a Cordell Hot Spot, will locate suspended smallmouth. 13. Baitfish move around more at night. 14. Heavily salted, three inch tubes are my favorite smallmouth bait just before dark. 15. Most fish feed at night in lakes that have heavy recreational traffic. 16. Use large willow leaf blades in dingy water. 17. Always wet your knot before pulling it down tight. 18. Don’t waste time fishing one spot. Fan-cast five times then move on. 19. Musky seek out weed fields because of the extra oxygen given off by the vegetation. 20. 90% of all lures manufactured today are designed to catch the fisherman.
