I have seen a lot of ice fisherman drill one hole and sit at it for hours with a few bites here and there or none at all. If the bite is not on don't waste time, move to another spot and drill a new hole. Or make several holes in an area and rotate.

Can you use a fish finder or a bottom machine to locate the fish under the ice? This ice fishing stuff is all new to me .

You can use a portable locater. They don't shoot to well through the ice, I'd drill a small hole and drop it in.

So, how thick is this ice and, if you run around cutting holes into it ,is it going to start getting week?

I don't get on it till its about 4 or 5 inches thick. Mid winter it can get 12 inches or more. As long as you don't cut a bunch of holes close together it won't weaken it.

I guess it's like ring around the fishing holes. I have an aquaintance who said he would teach me how to ice fish but so far nothing has become of it. His wife does have a tight reign on him. Already canceled two of the trips he was suppose to go on with me.

It sounds like your ice fishing instruction may have to come from the shirtless guy!
