This is a trick we use in fly fishing that is starting to be picked up by Bait and spinning casters. In fly fishing we use a point fly and drop two to three other flies(where legal). Most of the time the point fly is a floater and the dropper flies are wet but there are multiple combinations. Now with that said and done I have heard of many lure casters here in Pa. doing the same thing. They are dropping jigs off of spinners and other top water lures. That way with one cast they are covering two water columns.

Wow never thought of doing that. I will have to try it next time out after the lakes thaw. Thanks Rich!

Good tip Rich. Started doing this under certain situations for years in SW. It works great to locate the fish or get them feeding aggressively. There are some problems doing it in SW, as the fish are bigger and have teeth. It kind of surprises me that this has not been used more in freshwater. Or could it be this is one of those "circular trends", where it is used for a while then the idea dies for a while and resurfaces as a "new idea"? (There are a lot of fishing methods that the old salts used that start up again as "new") I would make use of this technique if I were you whether it be old or new. Thanks for posting it up Rich!

I do use it quite often when probing for fish. It was tricky at first with the fly rod. I tried to false cast to much in the beginning. What a tangled mess.

Doesn't sound like I should try it with the long rod until I get a bit better eith my casts.... I create enough spiderwebs and cocoons as it is. LOL

In the beginning, I was so frustrated that I almost snapped my rod in half. LOL

It is no wonder to me why they call it a "fly rod".... There are times when I get so frustrated with it that I wand to let the rod fly into the air to splash into the depths.

That could be dangerous. What if the fish learn how to use it and start pulling fisherman out of boats using mermaids for bait. LOL
