When tying with natuiral and synthetic hair for wings and bodies. Roll it in between your fingers ti get a more natural taper at the end. It also will improve the movement of the hair.

Where and when do you do this roll? at the tying end before the wraps, or the loose end during or after you wrap?

I ask because it is a habit I have picked up naturally because of tying by feel, and always thought it was a bad habit rather than good. You have rested my mind a bit, this is why the TOTW has many advantages. Thanks Rich.

I think I'll move this to the fly tying section instead of the tips section after this week. Good stuff Rich

Thanks Bob. If we had more fly fisherman on the site I could have more tips on fishing technics. It has been so long since I used conventional tackle that my tips would be old hat.
P.S. By the way Brian the flies you tyed for me have great action.

Rich, TOTW is not just for the members, but for the lurkers. Post up the tying tips when you can, and if you want post up a conventional "old hat". Someone out there may not have heard something as simple as "Bright day, bright bait", and after reading it might not be afraid of us...... (Well, until they take a look at the BS sandbox, but that is another story. LOL) I think the object behind the TOTW is to get folks discussing and let others know that we aren't just a closed knit group full of inside jokes, but a group that can share info as well. (That is why I try to make comments that make a freshwater tip apply to my beloved saltwater or ask how to make it apply. Though I do come off sounding like a wiseass most of the time... LOL)
Anyway, if you ask me, I think you should post up any tip you have on TOTW. Doesn't matter what style you fish.

Well said Brian, totally agree with that! and yes Rich any tip would be awesome! Since I only know freshwater with spincast/baitcast styles all my tips will be in that area. Thats why I ask others to put in a tip to broaden our tips and help all fishing styles.
