I had one of those once in a life time fishing expirences in the late 70's fishing for Largemouth Bass. I was fishing with a friend of mine in the Currituck sound for bass. If no one has ever fished there before it is full of milfiol and other grasses and weeds that you have to fish top water only in the upper part. We had asked some of the locals and got the skinny on how to fish it. We rented a row boat and proceeded to figure a pattern and style to catch fish. My partner had a buzzbait on and I decided to ty on a silver 1/0 johnson spoon and I dressed it with a yellow skirt. We fished for a few hours and no luck. We came upon a open area close to shore and sitting in about 2 ft. of water was an old tree stump with a broken limb jetting off to the left. I wanted to cast my spoon just under the limb ( the limb was about a foot and a half above water level ) and behind the stump to work it past the stump. I missed judged my cast and it went over the limb. I slowly worked the spoon over the limb. Before the spoon hit the water a 6 lb. bass jumped over the limb and hit the spoon. I set the hook several times. Hoping it would dig in before he spit it out. The fight was on and he tore off through the weeds like a frieght train. I was reeling like mad when all of a sudden the line went slack. I figured I didn't get a good hook set. I slowly started reeling in so I would get snagged in the weeds. About 15 feet from the boat my line went taunt and he was still on. He must have been swimming toward the boat. That was my bass of a life time. You see pictures of them jumping out of the water at dragon flies and such but to see it for real is such a rush.
